Corporate Engineer – Network Management Systems
Principal Accountabilities
This position provides client with in-house engineering expertise to implement and support performance monitoring, alarming and notification of all systems and sub-systems deployed in the operational network. This position is responsible for analyzing, architecting, designing, and/or acquiring network management systems and solutions. The position will identify new and/or update existing product and system engineering requirements based on business, operational, and marketing requirements. The position will obtain candidate solutions based on the requirements, evaluate and select preferred solutions, and deploy systems and solutions including design, analysis, development, implementation, verification, and documentation.
This position is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and oversight of network management systems in support of new or existing applications or services. This activity is critical to ensure that the systems in place and operational in support of customer and customer-affecting traffic can be effectively monitored to ensure that the deployed systems are meeting performance, reliability specifications. (15%)
This position is responsible for identifying new requirements for monitoring system performance and for alarming operations personnel of faults and threshold crossings. It is critical that new requirements are quickly identified and appropriate corrective or developmental activity initiated. (20%)
This position is responsible for obtaining candidate solutions based upon identified requirements for managing network and application-related systems and services those solutions against measurable parameters derived from those requirements. This position is responsible for recommending a preferred solution based on that evaluation and the review of other engineering team members. (20%)
This position is responsible for deploying new network management components and configurations and related network management systems and services. The deployment of new data-related monitoring and alarming systems will include design and integration into new applications and services the appropriate alarming and performance monitoring capabilities, additional system components, creation of test plans and procedures, documentation of the operation, maintenance and administration of any new systems or services, coordination with Market Operations for assistance in deployment activities, testing, training requirements, etc. (20%)
This position is responsible for the documentation projects and activities in accordance with applicable standards and prescribed procedures and processes for the development, operation, and maintenance of the data network and related systems. This information is essential for the development and operation of the network and data related applications and systems. (10%)
This position is responsible for providing technical expertise in the area of system performance monitoring and alarm/notification of various deployed systems/services for troubleshooting assistance, operational guidelines, system capacity and performance analysis, configuration optimization, etc. (15%)
Other Key Duties:
· Assist Corporate Operations in the definition of new product/service offerings and the capabilities and features of the systems to deliver those products and services to our customers.
· Review contracts for projects where prime responsibility lies elsewhere
· Attend meetings with vendors and review vendors for projects where prime responsibility lies elsewhere
· Work with Market Operations to obtain their support as required on project implementations.
· Provide consulting support to Market Operations as needed on areas of expertise.
· Present designs and recommendations to engineering, operations, and/or product development teams.
Decision Making Authority:
· Develop and review engineering policies and procedures.
· Initiate and review Purchase Orders in areas of responsibility.
· The position is directly responsible for the following functions: analysis, design, and oversight of network and/or systems architecture., all engineering (e.g. network design, application design, system configuration, cost analysis, discovery and evaluation of alternatives, ongoing support, application configuration parameter settings, etc.) as it relates to specified systems architectures and applications.
Skills required:
Wireless Telephony engineering
In depth knowledge of SNMP protocol, MIB compilation, various Network Management Systems, etc.
UNIX and/or Windows scripting skills, PERL scripting, etc.
Project management
Strong, up-to-date, technology skills in a variety of technologies
Ability to work well in a somewhat “unstructured”/demand–driven environment
Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills
Education / Experience:
BS in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent knowledge
7+ years experience in Wireless or DataCom Engineering
